Google Slides Helper

Connect Google Slides presentations to NextNote Display on your local network.

Sign In to Google

Launch NextNote for Google Slides and select Sign in to Google. Sign in with an account that can access the presentation. Google's Picker grants NextNote per-file access only to presentations you confirm. Although the Google scope can technically manage a selected file, NextNote uses it only to read and never edits, creates or deletes presentations.

Add a Presentation

Add presentations to the Helper using any of these methods:

Copy a Google Slides link and click the paste area.
Drag a Google Slides link into the Helper window.
Drag a .gslides file into the Helper window.

The presentation is added to Available presentations so it can be opened again without pasting the link each time.

Open and Present

Choose the presentation

Select Open beside the presentation you want to use.

Use the managed Chrome window

The Helper opens the presentation in its managed Google Chrome session and begins sending slides and speaker notes to Displays.

Start the slideshow

Start presenting in Google Slides. Connected Display cards change to Presenting.

Use the Chrome window opened by the Helper for the active presentation. This lets NextNote follow editing and presentation activity reliably.

Device Role

Use Device role to identify the Helper as Main or Backup when working with redundant presentation machines. Leave it as Not set when no role is required.

Slide Animations

Enable LiveView to stream slide transitions to connected Displays. Select High for the smoothest output or Low to reduce network and processing load. When LiveView is off, slides and speaker notes continue to update as still content.

Google Slides Presentation Information

NextNote receives slide order, slide images and speaker notes from Google Slides. Build-step information and media countdown timing are not supplied through the Google Slides interfaces used by the Helper, so the Display shows the available slide information without those values.

Forward movement can often be identified as a transition begins. Previous-slide movement is confirmed from the presentation state and may appear after the transition has started.

The Helper discovers visual fonts from the font-family, weight, bold and italic metadata in slide text runs returned by the Google Slides API. It skips each slide's speaker-notes page, so a font used only in speaker notes is not added to the slide-rendering font bundle. Full-deck loads and targeted single-slide refreshes use the same rule.

For each detected non-system Google Font, the separate Google Fonts request contains only the font family, weight and italic state. It does not contain slide text, speaker notes, deck title, presentation ID or any other presentation content. The returned font is cached locally.

Local Network Access

NextNote Google Slides uses Bonjour so Mac and Windows Display apps on the same local network can discover it automatically. Allow TCP and UDP port 8766 between the presentation and Display machines. Automatic discovery also requires mDNS/Bonjour on UDP port 5353. LiveView shares port 8766 and does not need a separate fixed port.

Trusted LAN only: Helper-to-Display connections do not use per-Display pairing or access codes. Use a private, access-controlled network and do not forward port 8766 to the internet. Any compatible device with routed access to the Helper may be able to request presentation data or send controls.
